Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026
This policy explains what personal information PitSavvy (www.pitsavvy.com) collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with. We do not sell your personal information.
Information We Collect
When you create an account: your username, first and last name, email address, and password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form). We also record that you acknowledged our investment disclaimer and when. To confirm your email, we send a one-time verification code; accounts that are not verified are deleted automatically shortly afterward.
Optional profile and checkout details: phone number and mailing address, if you enter them on your profile or at checkout.
Membership details: your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, membership status, and membership end date.
Email preferences: whether you have unsubscribed from our emails.
Technical and usage information:
- When our data services are requested (for example chart data and CSV exports), we log the address requested, the referring website, your IP address, the time, and your account if you are logged in.
- Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested).
- Your IP address is used briefly to limit repeated login and registration attempts.
- Google Analytics collects usage information as described under Cookies & Analytics.
Payment Information
Memberships are paid through Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's secure checkout page; your card number never reaches or is stored on our servers. We send Stripe your name, email address, phone number and mailing address to create your customer record, and Stripe tells us whether your payment and subscription are active. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and secure your account, verify your email, and let you sign in.
- To process your membership and give members access to paid features.
- To send account emails: verification codes, welcome messages, and password reset and password change notices.
- To send occasional PitSavvy news and updates by email, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.
- To understand how the site is used, keep it running, and protect it against abuse.
Cookies & Analytics
We use these cookies:
- Essential cookies that keep you signed in (session cookie, which expires after 12 hours) and protect forms against forgery (CSRF cookie). The site cannot work without them.
- Google Analytics cookies (named
_gaand_ga_*). Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your browser and device type, the site that referred you, and your approximate location derived from your IP address. Google processes this information under its own terms; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Who We Share Data With
We share personal information only with the service providers that run parts of the site:
- Stripe: payment processing and membership billing.
- Google: Google Analytics, described above.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES): sends our emails, so your email address, name and the message contents pass through it to be delivered.
- Anthropic: if you are a member and use the AI assistant on the January Effect backtest page, the messages you type in that chat are sent to Anthropic to generate replies. We do not store those chats on our servers. Please do not enter personal information in the chat.
- Amazon Web Services: hosts our servers and database in the United States.
- Content delivery networks (jsDelivr, unpkg, Plotly and GitHub): our pages load code libraries from these services, which receive your IP address and browser information when your browser fetches them.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of PitSavvy and its users.
Data Retention
- Account and profile information is kept while your account exists, and deleted when you ask us to delete your account.
- Logs of requests to our data services are deleted after 180 days.
- Unverified registrations are deleted automatically shortly after sign-up.
- If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on our opt-out list so we can keep honoring your choice.
- Stripe keeps payment records as required by its own legal and financial obligations.
Your Choices
- Unsubscribe: every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Update your details: edit your name, phone and address on your profile page.
- Manage your membership: members can update payment details or cancel through the Manage Billing link in the account menu, which opens Stripe's billing portal.
- Access or deletion: email privacy@pitsavvy.com to ask for a copy of your information or for your account to be deleted.
- Analytics: block cookies or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on described above.
Children's Privacy
PitSavvy is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, passwords are stored as one-way hashes, login and registration attempts are rate-limited, and card details are handled by Stripe rather than by us. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date, and for significant changes we may also notify registered users by email.
